The three of us had a lovely time at The Barn this week. The weather was quite wet and overcast on the whole but the house was perfectly equipped to be a welcome refuge when we returned from our damp adventures! Car Port, Vestibule, clothes airer, HOT water, stove – brilliant!
We got some breaks in the cloud earlier in the week, which brought the Autumn colours to life during the day and gave us a stunning night sky view too. The terrace from the bedroom was the perfect vantage point to gaze at the stars and then nip inside when a warm up was needed. Agree with previous visitors, the Anchor Inn at Kippford was friendly and the food was good. We sampled Sunday roast ( from 12.00) and watched the dinghy racing from the coastal path back to Rockliffe. We took the coastal path from Rockliffe to Sandyhills too. Some of the path is shared with the cattle. Just coffee, ice lollies and flapjack at the Sandyhills holiday park shop, so glad we packed some lunch! Bus back from Sandyhills was welcome, £1.50 for 1 adult and dog friendly. Luna loved having the woodland route to Rockliffe on the doorstep, and Dalbeattie Town Wood proved very popular too especially Plantain loch….use the North car park to avoid the bike trials. Threave Gardens in Castle Douglas were impressive – would look great in Sunshine! Free parking and entry for NT members, and cafe is good!
The Barn is a wonderfully provisioned gem of a place!
